Set in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a previous planning application made by another practice for a large extension had been refused, leaving the owners unsure how to progress. The owners key requirements for this build were to produce a home that was light and airy but also energy efficient. They told us how they were completely beholden to seasonal change in the weather and would experience a house which was too hot in the summer and very expensive to heat in the winter. Working within the existing footprint dimensions we freed up space by creative replanning and replaced the flat- roofed dormers with a significantly more insulated and aesthetically pleasing roof form. This home now sits beautifully in its surroundings and is a pleasing space to live in all year round.
