Sympathetic restoration and extension of an older property

Proposal development

The development of the proposals for this typical between-the-wars home focused on making the most of the original features of the house and enhancing them with contemporary additions. The contemporary touches included a new glazed orangery room and a completely reconfigured interior to suit modern living. The heating system will warm the house with a combination of solar water heating and ornamental wood-fired boiler.

Although large areas of glazing are proposed, this is counterbalanced with walls, floors and a roof insulated far in excess of the requirements of the building regulations, meaning that this house will outperform homes built far more recently, despite being over 70 years old in vintage!
